Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about music technology lessons at ND Music Academy.

Q

Is music technology a good fit for students with ASD or ADHD?

Yes. Music technology provides a structured, screen-based creative outlet that many neurodivergent students find engaging. The visual feedback of a DAW, combined with the ability to work at your own pace, makes it an excellent fit for students with ASD and ADHD.

Q

What DAWs do you teach in music technology lessons?

We primarily teach Pro Tools, but also work with Logic Pro depending on your goals. We’ll help you choose the right software and provide hands-on instruction from the very first lesson.

Q

What’s the difference between music technology and composition?

They’re two very different studies. Composition is focused on music writing—melody, harmony, form—using notation software. Music technology is focused on software and recording techniques—DAWs, mixing, mastering, and sound engineering. There’s some overlap, but we teach them as separate disciplines so you can focus on what interests you most.

Q

Do I need my own equipment to start music production lessons?

No. If you come to us, we have plenty of recording equipment on hand. For in-home lessons, we bring a laptop and audio interface so you can learn in your own space. When you’re ready to set up at home, we can recommend affordable gear including DAW software, interfaces, and headphones.

Q

Do you offer music production lessons for beginners in Los Angeles?

Yes. We offer Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced music technology instruction in Sherman Oaks, serving all of Los Angeles. No prior production experience is needed. New students receive 50% off their first 3 lessons.
