Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about drum lessons at ND Music Academy.

Q

What will I learn in drum lessons?

You’ll learn beats, fills, rudiments, coordination, and timing. We cover multiple genres and styles—from rock and pop to jazz and funk—and tailor every lesson to your skill level and musical interests.

Q

Are drums a good instrument for students with ADHD?

Yes. Drumming is a physical, high-energy activity that channels focus and provides immediate rhythmic feedback—making it a great fit for students with ADHD. Our lessons use structured, activity-varied segments to keep all students engaged.

Q

Do I need my own drum kit to take lessons?

No. We teach on a portable electronic drum pad, which is great for building technique, coordination, and rudiments. A practice pad at home is an affordable way to keep progressing between lessons, and we can help you choose one.

Q

What age can kids start drum lessons?

Most children can start drum lessons around age 6 or 7, once they have the coordination to hold sticks comfortably. We assess each student individually and adjust the lesson approach for younger players.

Q

Do you offer drum lessons for beginners in Los Angeles?

Yes. We offer Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced drum instruction in Sherman Oaks, serving all of Los Angeles. No prior experience is needed to start. New students receive 50% off their first 3 lessons.
